Great Place to Work’s Ambitious Mission Gains Deeper Meaning

There’s a common misconception of people about Great Place to Work® that we often observe and encounter: that it’s merely a certifying body.

Indubitably, recognizing great workplace cultures makes a big chunk of our function. However, our craft overall is hinged on a much bigger purpose—to help organizations not just achieve a high-trust company culture but also be a Great Place to Work For All™.

When we say “For All” this translates to working environments that empower all individuals to reach their full human potential.

The beauty of this ambitious mission is that it doesn’t just stay within the workplace. We believe achieving For All inevitably results in a transformation that lies beyond your organization. It ultimately leads to a community of Great Place to Work-Certified™ companies that desire a better world for everybody; For All.

This mission holds a special space for Filipino children’s education. And how can it not when the statistics reflect a crucial need for aid in the Philippines’ fragile educational system?

Data by Teach for the Philippines shows that over 40,000 teachers are needed in public schools. Moreover, only 13 of 100 students who enter Grade 1 will complete their education. Quite alarming, isn’t it?

This cause for concern is one of the countless reasons why we, at Great Place to Work Philippines, hold a firm belief that education is For All.

For two consecutive years now, we have answered the call to play our part in ensuring learning continuity for Filipino students.

Along with some Great Place to Work-Certified companies, we partnered with Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation last year to raise resources to build Educational Hubs. These “E-hubs,” as they are coined, assisted students and teachers in the mangrove villages of Layag-Layag, Zamboanga at the height of the pandemic.

In addition, our collaboration was able to bring forth even more generous donations. These were three Yellow Boats that granted a source of living to three families in need and tools for the e-hubs such as printers.

In 2022, Great Place to Work Philippines partners with Teach for the Philippines.

We share the organization’s belief that education plays an important role in reducing poverty and activating a positive domino effect that impacts the lives of individuals, their families, communities and eventually the country.

Founded in 2012, Teach for the Philippines works towards a vision where all Filipino children will benefit from an excellent, inclusive and relevant education.

Giving light to how they do such, “We achieve this by enlisting high-potential Filipino leaders who can positively impact students’ academic and life skills, and who leverage their teaching experiences to advance education reform.”

With this meaningful initiative, we hope to achieve three things:

• To assist in the procurement of bright young professionals and the cream of the crop of this year’s graduating class for Teach for the Philippines’ growing pool of Teacher Fellows

• To encourage others to be a champion for education as well

• To help uplift the Philippines’ educational system that’s been badly bruised by the pandemic

This donation was handed over to Teach for the Philippines’ Chief Program Officer, Adelaide Elpidama, on July 15, 2022, at Teach for the Philippines’ headquarters in Makati City. Also present in the scene to represent the Great Place to Work Philippines team were Karissa Huyong-Manankil (Client Solutions Manager), Zoe Rosal (Content and Creatives Manager), Patricia Yambao (Content and Creatives Associate) and Denise Baje (Customer Success Manager).
